Features and benefits

  • Non-arsenical formulation, considerably safer than the historical arsenical pastes; provides a route to pain-free pulp extirpation when infiltration and block anaesthesia have both failed; the 8 g jar is the economical clinic-volume pack. Important limitation: devitalising pastes are cytotoxic, cause periapical and soft tissue necrosis if they leak, and are increasingly restricted worldwide — they should be a last resort, not a routine alternative to anaesthesia.

Directions to use

Use only where local anaesthesia has failed or is contraindicated, and only with the patient's informed consent. Isolate with a rubber dam. Place a very small quantity on the exposed pulp, cover with a dry cotton pellet and seal with a well-adapted, non-pressure temporary restoration — the seal must be complete, because leakage onto the gingiva causes soft tissue necrosis. Leave for the period stated in the IFU, then remove entirely and proceed with pulpectomy. Never leave beyond the stated period, never use in primary teeth close to exfoliation, and never allow contact with gingival tissue. This class of material is restricted or withdrawn in several jurisdictions — confirm the current CDSCO position and your own clinical protocol before use. Confirm exact composition, setting times and contraindications against the SafeEndo IFU before publishing.
