Features and benefits

  • Chemical adhesion to dentine and enamel means minimal cavity preparation is needed — no undercuts are required, so sound tooth structure is conserved; sustained fluoride release with the ability to recharge from toothpaste and fluoride applications, giving genuine anticariogenic benefit at the margin; excellent choice for high-caries-risk patients, root surface lesions in older patients and the atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) technique; biocompatible and well tolerated close to the pulp; sets chemically, so no curing light is needed and bulk placement is possible.

Directions to use

Remove caries and clean the cavity; no bevel or undercut is required. Condition the dentine with the polyacrylic acid conditioner for 10 seconds if supplied, rinse and dry lightly, leaving the surface visibly moist. Dispense and spatulate powder and liquid in the stated ratio for the stated time to a glossy consistency — a dull mix has passed its working time and will not bond. Place in bulk with a plastic instrument or syringe, avoiding voids, and contour before the initial set. Protect the surface immediately with the supplied varnish or a bonding resin, as glass ionomer is highly sensitive to both moisture uptake and desiccation during the first 24 hours. Delay finishing and polishing to a later visit where possible. Confirm exact composition, setting times and contraindications against the SafeEndo IFU before publishing.
