Features and benefits

  • Combines the high alkalinity of calcium hydroxide with the broad antimicrobial action of iodoform, covering organisms that calcium hydroxide alone handles poorly; markedly more radiopaque than plain calcium hydroxide, so the fill can be verified radiographically; resorbable, which makes the calcium hydroxide/iodoform combination the material of choice for primary tooth pulpectomy where the filling must resorb with the root; effective in persistently weeping or exuding canals that have not responded to calcium hydroxide alone; ready-to-use syringe with intracanal tip for reliable placement to length.

Directions to use

Complete cleaning and shaping and dry the canal. Attach the intracanal tip, insert to 2–3 mm short of working length and inject slowly while withdrawing, filling the canal completely without voids. Confirm the fill radiographically — the radiopacity makes this straightforward. In primary tooth pulpectomy, fill to just short of the apex and restore definitively at the same visit. As an interappointment dressing in permanent teeth, seal with a well-adapted temporary and remove completely at the next visit by irrigation and recapitulation before obturation. Avoid in patients with known iodine sensitivity; note that iodoform can discolour tooth structure. Confirm exact composition, setting times and contraindications against the SafeEndo IFU before publishing.
