Features and benefits
- Chelates calcium to remove the inorganic component of the smear layer, which sodium hypochlorite cannot touch — the two are complementary and neither alone leaves a clean canal wall; opens the dentinal tubules so irrigants, medicaments and sealer contact clean dentine, which directly improves the quality of the seal; lubricates the file and softens the canal wall, easing negotiation of narrow and calcified canals and reducing the torque demand on rotary files; helps prevent ledging and blockage during instrumentation. Gel form stays in the chamber and on the file rather than running out; the 5 ml syringe is the practical chairside size and allows one syringe to be kept in each endodontic setup.
Directions to use
Place a small amount in the pulp chamber at the start of instrumentation and carry it into the canal on the file, replenishing as the canal is enlarged. Alternate with copious sodium hypochlorite irrigation. Before obturation, finish with an EDTA solution rinse for one minute, flush thoroughly with saline or sterile water to arrest the chelation, and dry with paper points before placing sealer.
