- Volatile antimicrobial action reaches lateral canals, fins and dentinal tubules that mechanical instrumentation and a paste dressing cannot; useful for controlling interappointment pain in acute symptomatic presentations; well established in Indian endodontic practice; economical 15 ml bottle covers a large number of cases. Note that solutions of this class are cytotoxic to periapical tissue and contemporary practice restricts them to short-term use in small quantities, with calcium hydroxide preferred as the routine interappointment dressing.
Directions to use
After cleaning, shaping and drying the canal, moisten a small cotton pledget with the solution and blot it almost dry — the pledget must be damp, not saturated, and no solution should be expressed into the canal or beyond the apex. Place the pledget in the pulp chamber only. Seal with a well-adapted temporary restoration; a leaking temporary makes the dressing pointless. Limit the dressing period to a few days. Use rubber dam isolation and avoid contact with skin, mucosa and eyes. Keep the bottle tightly closed, as the active constituent is volatile.
